Dr. John BaltzellDr. John Baltzell, the physician who built the house, which is the current home to the Historical Society of Frederick County, was the grandnephew of John Thomas and Margaret Schley, the first people to purchase a plot of land in the new city of Frederick Towne.




The Museum of Frederick County History is available for guided tours Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is closed to the public the first two weeks of the year and on select holidays, including: New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Groups are invited to enjoy tours of either Historical Society museum, or accompany a professional tour guide on a tour through downtown Frederick. All tours are led by trained guides and can be tailored to your group's interests and needs. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more. To book a tour, please contact the Education Coordinator at 301-663-1188 or by e-mail.
